Announcing a new PC gaming journal titled, DragonRook! DragonRook is shipped in both print and with a CD. The print contains reviews on games, tips, news, and trends. The CD contains game demos, user created programs for games like saved games, VCRs, car set-ups, and levels or maps. And you'll find patch files to update your games. The main idea is that the cost of downloading all of these programs is huge, not to mention the large amount of time spent! Plus, your hard drive space keeps shrinking. I want to bring you these programs at a fraction of the cost on a CD that won't clutter your hard drive! Along with a printed copy of important gaming information, you save money and time. And there will be no useless "interactive interviews" to get in the way! I want to save space on the CD for data and user created programs that you can acutally use over and over. (Ok, you may find interesting animations in the future) The current plan is to release DragonRook on a quarterly basis. For now, the print is printed on matte paper. Not until subscription reaches to over 7,000 and then DragonRook will become an official magazine. Until then, it is not cost effective to print a magazine. Be on the look out in the future. There is no subscription planned at this time. Right now, you pay for one issue. The price of future issues will be subject the number of purchasers and advertising. If I get a good response, I will be hiring more help, get advertisers and become an official magazine possibly by the second issue. Then subscription rates will be available and the prices for each issue will be set. Also, depending on the response and if I can get at least 200 megs in a month, future issues may come out every other month. If you have made a nice game that you want to get noticed, you may send it to DragonRook in shareware or demo form to be destributed. Hopefully, this trial issue goes over well and we will move on to bigger and better things. The first issue is focused on DOOM with articles on creating PWADS, tips, and a bunch of PWADs and LMPs. There is a menu interface called, Visions of Hell, that will allow easy selection of each PWAD. The PWAD is copied to your hard drive for fast execution and then is erased when done to save your hard drive space. The menu also organizes your saved games for each PWAD if you wish dependant on hard drive space. The menu also backs up and protects your normal saved games and then stores the saved games for a PWAD if you wish. There are several new 1st person 3D games coming next year with editors, and these will be supported in the same way. The menu also allows easy viewing of the text description and shows a demo of the PWAD in DOOM versions 1.2 and 1.666! You can set your favorite skill level and default port options. The CD has over 80 PWADs for a total of more than 200 levels! A large number of levels could not be used because they didn't have text descriptions or caused DOOM to crash. A few just had too many errors. (Please include text files!) My own PWAD is included as a complete episode called Castle Phobos version 3. Many of you may have seen the first few levels for this episode, but now there is 9 levels with a couple of new monsters, new graphics, new sounds, and new fantastic music! This PWAD has grown to over 4 Megs! The music is also available on the CD as standard audio that can be played on any audio CD player or your CD-ROM The music is an example of wave-table synthesis as it was recorded from a Sound Canvas by Roland. This will help players to know what wave-table music is like. I think that this particular music may be the best music ever heard for any game! The release date of DragonRook is planned for October 24, 1994. Any orders recieved before 10/21 will get their copy on the week of 10/24. It is a first come, first served basis. After 10/24, please allow up to 3 weeks for delivery dependant on availability of the CDs while they are being duplicated. Most orders should be recieved within a week. The price is set for $9 dollars for the first issue and payment should be a check drawn on a U.S. bank. This price includes shipping for continental U.S. Add $1 for Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii.
